The first thing that struck me with this first impression is that it was unusual.

Firstly the format of casual journal entries from the protagonist to be read by his therapist as part of his treatment. The tone of voice comes across really well and the mixture of story telling the author is making the character do and the 1st person asides all mixed in makes the character come to life through their own words much like if you were reading the journal of an actual person.

I liked the premise and the hints that something awful has happened to this person( I don't think we know their name yet) and that the person he helds responsible has been redacted from the pages of his journal entries at this time.

It's different and interesting but the opening 30 or so pages haven't quite enabled me to delve into the plot or the setting of the story enough, other than some flashbacks and hints It's a bit vague so far but I think this just makes me more curious as to the wider picture and where this story might be headed.

One final thing is the cover. How ingenious! I thought that the book was called 'Kill' and that black mark was the design. I now realise the the story is called 'Kill Redacted' and the cover is a redacted word! Brilliant!
