This seems like such a good read! In such a such excerpt, I got such a good feel of the character and his bereavement. You really get a feel for his world and the injustice that he experiences, whilst also seeing the love he obviously still has for his wife. It would be interesting to see how his relationship with his daughter develops as the book goes on. Seeing his experience with counselling also reminded me, as a mental health nurse, how each person is an individual with a family and a history and a whole life that I know nothing about. I don't think I ever forget that, but it is always good to have a reminder!
