This is an incredibly powerful artwork, portraying the very inner workings of the mind of a man on the edge. I was challenged, shocked and moved all within this book. It was truly extraordinary to read. The change in pace, from quick moving descriptions of events to slow philosophical musings really throw the normal rhythm you expect in a book. This made it more challenging and more gripping in equal measure. I found particularly interesting the in-depth look at morals and at how none of us is truly good or bad, just a mix of our genes, early environment and the big things that happen to us in life. I think what the author did most impressively was make me see things from Michael's view in an almost subconscious way. By the end, I was almost rooting for him, if only so he could find peace, even though his actions were clearly wrong. This is a compelling and haunting testimony from a victim of terror.
