If you know me, you’ll know that spy novels/movies/etc. are not usually my go to. Fun fact, I don’t like James Bond (I know - criminal 🫢). So for me, beginning this book was like taking a running dive straight into a freezing cold pool of discomfort.

However, instead of feeling like an ice bath, that pool felt like a warm jacuzzi on a summers day with a cold, sparkling glass of lemonade waiting on the side. To put it simply and place my confusing metaphors aside, this book was amazing.

Asia Mackay has built a beautifully loveable spy who, throughout the novel, battles with the newfound joys of motherhood and the looming guilt of returning back to work. This guilt is further deepened by her job being no normal 9-5: Alexis Tyler is a spy.

Part of the “Unicorn” branch, Alexis is a trained killer - expected to get in and out, whilst still making it home in time for bedtime stories with her daughter.

Whilst gripping the reader with an intriguing mystery involving a Russian businessman and his wife, Asia Mackay explores the intricacies of motherhood and the deeper issues of the struggles women can face.

I deeply recommend this book to everyone, but especially my female readers out there. Killing It will remind you that whether you have children, don’t have children, are older, are younger, whatever your circumstances may be - you are strong enough to compete with what life throws at you!

Being a woman is beautiful. Being a woman is powerful.

Overall, I can easily rate this book ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. I’m already on the hunt for the sequel (The Nursery) and can’t wait to get my hands on it!
