I read the preview of the second book on here last year and though it was interesting, it wasn't good enough to make me go back and pick up the first one in preparation for it. This opening chapter did that.
You go straight into a seemingly unconnected case. You feel for the boy and want to know about this woman. It draws you in and then the chapter ends. You skip back to the main cast and dive into Aerin going missing. The summary about Brett and what happened in the previous books actually made me curious.
I think I might give this series a go after all.
