The final book of The Amateurs... I couldn't wait till I got the book. Before I started to read I first took book 2 from the shelf and read some chapters again (has been a year since I've read it). It really helped me remember everything the characters have been through. I do think it was necessary to reread book 2 before starting the last book.
The beginning of the book started a bit strange with a passage that had nothing to do with the previous story. At least you think... Of course starting the first chapter triggered my own 'investigative skills'. But as aspected from Sara Shepard my thoughts seen to be not exactly right. This happened until about a third of the book. From that point I saw the big picture. I connected some loose ends from the previous books. Did it bother me? Not at all, because it made me wonder more and more if I was right. The more you read, the more things about Brett's past became clear. This was a nice detail in this final book. It gives the reader some closure. It also makes you want to sympathies with him even though you know all the horrible things he has done. That's why you can, as a reader, relate more to the characters in the book who try to see Brett's side or try to trick this serial killer by making him feel understood.
The story really got to me and it made me read the whole book in one day. But it was hard to sympathize with the constant 'I'm so sad and putting a wall up' attitude from Seneca. This came to an anticlimax in the end. The investigation itself was interesting to read and made you really part of the story. You could really feel the timepressure the team was in. Even though I liked the book and think it was a nice story to finish the trilogy, there were some passages which weren't that strong (the things happening in Sea Breeze disappointed me) which made me kind of annoyed, because I really wanted the suspense to keep building up. I think this was supposed to be the most exciting part where all the storylines came together, but the whole 'fun house' experience didn't wow me. The part of Thomas in this book also didn't do it for me.
In my opinion the final book really gave the characters closure. I also liked that the ending keeps a little opening for your brain to go crazy and think of all the things that might happen after you've finished reading.
