Lawyer for the Dog is noted to be a debut novel and I personally have to say it is a complete success in that regard! Sally Baynard's mother hoped she'd grow up to be a high society lady and marry into a well-off family: at first, Sally seems set on meeting her mother's expectations by marrying Joe Baynard. However, since then Sally has divorced him and has gone on to be one of the sharpest attorneys in Charleston. She has represented murderers, drug dealers and settled some of the toughest divorces. Now her ex-husband has assigned her to a unusual case: representing a dog - Sherman - in a divorce case surrounding his owners. As Sherman begins to find his way into Sally's heart, she questions everything she thought she knew about what true love really means.
This was an absolutely lovely story and had a beautifully cosy atmosphere- books featuring dogs normally are for me!
