Let's Pretend by Laura Vaughan is a hard book to categorise but I really enjoyed reading it.
Lily was a former child star actor still struggling to retain the big time. She has a controlling momager and a couple of best friends who could not be more opposite. One a wealthy influencer and the other also a struggling actor looking to get famous.
Lily meets a former stage school friend Adam who is on the verge of breaking through in Hollywood. Trying to keep his sexuality private he hires her to be his fake girlfriend.
However they end up falling out as Adam becomes violent and embroiled in drugs.
Lily later discovers Adam dead in a swimming pool after a party and grows suspicious of what actually happened.
She sets out to investigate the death.
I really enjoyed this book, part romance, part murder mystery with a bit of good and bad friendship thrown in. The characters were well written and the story kept me guessing to the end. I would highly recommend.
