I was very disappointed with this story. It could have been a sketch out of Eastenders or a season of something equally as boring. I had guessed the killer by about halfway through and then the twist at the end was so ridiculous it made me laugh out loud.
Lily Thane is an out of work, one hit wonder actress. Adam Harker is an actor, and by all accounts seems to be doing pretty well for himself. However to big up his profile even further he is looking for someone to be his plus one. That is where Lily comes in. Friends since school, Adam and Lily embark on a fauxmance; a contract with mutual benefits. Until things go wrong that is and Adam is found dead in a swimming pool. Suicide, accident or murder?
When you read the first impression, you do get a feel that this book (and the author even mentions this at the end in acknowledgements) is never going to win an Oscar. If you want something that isn't going to tax the brain too much, or even something to wind the time away on holiday, then Let's Pretend is for you.
