Let's Pretend is a glimpse into the underside of the glamour that we see on the red carpet. The main character is your typical child actress, successful as a child but fading away into insignificance as she grows up. A chance meeting gives her a golden opportunity, to post as the girlfriend of an up and coming star, Adam, to both raise her profile and hide the fact that he is secretly gay.
However all is not well in Hollywood, as Adam's wild lifestyle spirals out of control and she is forced to play the part of the dutiful and doting girlfriend.
Post their (staged) break up, she attends a party where things get out of control and in the morning Adam is found dead in the swimming pool. She suspects foul play, but no one will believe her. The rest of the book focuses on her trying to prove that Adam was murdered and he didn't die by accident, but it's an uphill battle.
