This was a debut novel by this author, Laura Vaughn, and it really does deliver. It was compelling and kept me hooked – it is full of a lot of dark humour and wit and i would also say that this is a very contemporary novel. The characters all appear glamourous and successful on the outside but then are unmasked as being completely fragile and toxic as you read further. None of the characters ever become very likeable either – you would be hard pressed to find anyone to root for in this novel – but despite that it is still really good. In fact, not being able to sympathize much for any of the characters adds to the darkness of the story. I found myself really enjoying it and reading it quite quickly and I will be interested to see what else this writer produces in the future. The cover is good and very much in keeping with the story – bold but not giving very much away.
