Lauren is a bisexual girl with a boyfriend. Who she's not quite sure if he's just using her for sex or not.

She's a member of an LGBTQ club, yet is frustrated by the trappings and ramblings that the members of the group repeatedly go around.

Spoiler: then Lauren finds out that she's pregnant as her suspicions about her boy are confirmed. Problem is, she in Ireland where women's rights are still very much behind the times.

Hennessy tackles some very prevalent and important issues in this book through the eyes of an imperfect (at times a very frustrating) teenager.

There is some controversy in this story. Lauren actively dislikes girls who like makeup, clothes and their ideology of just wanting to find a nice boy. I get that in a way, however what is one teenagers goal and aspiration isn't another; and that's ok.

Then I remember that this is a book about teenagers told through a teens POV. I'm not the target audience for this story, and had to keep reminding myself how self involved they can be (as we all were, it's a right of passage surely?!).

Lauren has to go through some heartbreaking decisions on her own. She can't confide in her mum as her mum is the headmaster of her school. She can't confide in her friends for fear of judgement. I felt for her.

A thought provoking story, and although some faces bent for the narrative, the fact that so many women faced with the same decision in Ireland are denied their basic human rights and care within their health care system.

A brave story that will surely divide readers.

I would like to thank Readers First for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
