Am I like these girls?
There are a lot of complicated themes in this novel and it ended up not being what I was really expecting: fun, self-discovery and sexy. Instead, it was quite raw at times but I still think this is a good book. I did appreciate how Claire Hennessey included ‘hard’ subjects such as abortion, trans issues and strict religious views, that seemed real.
It had a brash edge when trying to find the humour in serious situations, which is always difficult to do honestly it just missed the mark a few times.
I would not read this book if you are easily offended and cannot see what the characters are experiencing at the moment. It is not an overview of a situation where the characters are educated and have positive/friendly views.
The opening to the novel was straightforward set in Laurens school days, it quickly develops into something much more than an easy read, you are in for a bit of a ride! Buckle up…
