There is a LOT going on in this novel but I think it works for the most part. Teenager Lauren is bisexual, her best friend (with whom Lauren maybe wanted more) is transgender, and she has a boyfriend who she mainly seems to meet up with for sex. Everything goes wrong and Lauren finds herself isolated from her friends at the same time as she realises she might be pregnant.

I liked this fresh take on an old story, though I found having so many characters became a little confusing. It seemed like with the kids at the Q club for LGBTQ kids there was a 'one of each' tokenism thing going on which probably wasn't necessary. Together with all the girls and cliques at Lauren's school at times I got the characters mixed up.

Overall, not perfect but an enjoyable novel taking on big issues in a sensitive way.
