The novel starts with a mother in a busy market just before Christmas with her four year old son. She lets go of his hand and he disappears. 16 months later and he has not been found yet and the mother is trying to get on with her life.
The first few chapters are well written and I'm not sure yet whether I'm supposed to pity the mother or hate her- she seems like a complex character.
I am intrigued to read more to find out what happens.
