Sebastian is missing and has been missing for over a year. He was last seen holding hands with Santa leaving the market. Marin and Derek's marriage has broken down, as a result, and Derek begins an affair with someone much younger.

I found the writing easy to read, so much so I read this in 24 hours. It's twisty and keeps you guessing. The story is split between Derek's mistress and Marin, which gives the story perspective. I find this refreshing, as most missing children stories only have one perspective - from police officers. I really enjoyed this book and would recommend. I will look out for Jennifer Hillier's other books too.

The author didn't go through the cliched 'who done it?' route like so many other missing children novels, and that is what makes this novel different. It focuses on revenge and other emotions. These are not length descriptions, but they are impactive.

I found the choice of cover odd (I said this in my first impression). There are no descriptions of houses like the cover, nor are there forests mentioned. No, that is not a spoiler! Also, there was a photo described of Sebastian and Santa together on the day of the disappearance. Why was this not looked into? I did guess some parts of this story, but not all. There is one loose end (but I cannot say what it is without a major spoiler alert!).

If you are looking for a good book, it's this one.
