This is a thriller. The main characters are Marin Machado and McKenzie Li.
After her son was taken, Marin's perfect life falls apart. Still Marin longs to be reunited with him so she hired a PI to look for him when the police stop their active search. A year later, the PI tells her that her husband is having an affair with 24 year old, McKenzie. Angered, Marin does everything to stop her life coming more apart.
McKenzie loves to Instagram her life and let her older so-called-boyfriends spend their money on her, despite working in a coffee shop and being an Art student, she finds it difficult to maintain herself. Unknown to her but this time trouble follows her.
Little do they know but they both have another person in common, and sometimes trust is easily misused.
I found the central characters of Marin and McKenzie well developed by the author because the author managed to capture their emotions especially that of loss, regret as well as jealously well.
Initially, I wasn't too sure about reading a book about a child getting taken as I too have a young child. However, the author focuses more on the mother and later on introduces the father's mistress.
I liked how the author focused on the two women because it makes you have a greater understanding of all the characters, and it created suspense because it focused on each of the women at a time, rarely they intertwined. The author also used dialogues and realistic descriptions to interest her readers.
A slow start, a thrilling middle and surprisingly, it has a better ending.
