It could have been better

I really liked the premise of this book in the sense that two sisters, Tina and Lottie, decide to go on a road trip across America in order to honour their dead sister Mia. They wanted to scatter her ashes at Landing Rock due to her love of Westerns.

Tina and Lottie are polar opposites - with Tina being extroverted and spontaneous and Lottie being very measured and sensible. This road trip enables them to get to know each other and to understand each other better and to develop themselves. This aspect of the story was really moving and was well written.

However, the whole book was ruined by the introduction of Spike, who joined the girls on their trip.

His interactions with the sisters and the fall-out was completely unrealistic, and unnecessary. It seems like the author felt the need for sexual tension when in fact the relationship between the sisters was enough.

For the story of the sisters' relationship I would have given the book 4, but Spike has brought it back to a 3.
