The London No.1 Dog Walking Agency tells the story of Kate, a middle class graduate who ditches her admin job at Sotheby's to become a full time dog walker and somehow within weeks is employing other people as dog walkers too. The book is set in 2006 and 2006 London is very different to TODAY London so as much as I found the book super fun and easy to read - even for someone who doesn't especially like dogs - I found Kate to be slightly annoying and entitled and kept wondering quite where the money to pay for rent and food was coming from. One third of the way in she and her partner buy a flat in Wandsworth ... it doesn't seem entirely realistic. The book does address some of the issues with being a full time dog walker - the weather, the exercise, the limited hours but I still found Kate portrayed it in a glamourised way. I enjoyed the anecdotes about the different characters she met through her work and at the park. Maybe I'm taking the book to seriously, its an easy and enjoyable read but doesn't make me want to become a dog walker anytime soon!
