I am a dog lover, I own a black Labrador and she leaves hair everywhere but I could not live without her. I take her out once a day as it gives me the space and freedom I crave after working in an office all day. I would love to leave my badly paid, stressful 40 hour week and walk dogs. Bliss.

Kate Macdougall writes a beautiful clever insight into the business of dog walking as semi-autobiographical book. The description of the owners and their eccentricities - who owns a Labrador that is not allowed in puddles or to get muddy paws? Why would somebody get a dog and then get everybody else to look after it?

The story is fast paced exploring the beautiful parks of London and the interaction of the walkers with the owners is cleverly described.

The unreliable recruitment process finding walkers who just need work rather than have any interest in the dogs and those walkers like Tom who use the dogs as a form of therapy finding a way to be who he wants to be with his faithful friend by his side until his charge is no longer here and he moves on.

As you go through the book, the events of life - marriage, children, moving have to be played out and you see that the genteel lifestyle craved seems to have worked for this family.

I loved it.
