From the except the writing itself has a familiarity to it, almost like revisting something you are fond of from the past. Felt like a warm hug as I adore my dogs so felt attached to the mere notion of dogs.

The format of the chapters being about certain dogs and having the key attributes about them such as breed and age added to the sense of familiarity and warmth.

The way our main character is introduced is very familiar and resonated with me personally because I identified with the self doubt and monotony of life.

However, with that sense of familiarity comes an issue of it feeling like something I've read already not in terms of plot but in terms of how i connect to it. This will obviously be different for other readers but I wanted to include the fact that yes it does feel comforting but there wasn't anything I felt that blew me away and out of the water from the excerpts.
