Having watched every episode of the Durrells television series I was eagerly anticipating the arrival of this book through my door.........in fact I am sure stalking the postman every day until he brought it may now be registered as a crime ! I have to say I devoured this book, not wanting to put it down but wanting to read on even into the wee small hours. The story follows a woman called Penny. She is not what you call worldly wise and has a number of problems, but you do get to find she is a very likeable character. When her father dies and she loses her fiance she decides it is time for a change and in memory of her father she decides to go on a voyage of discovery. He had given her the books about the Durrells so she decides she wants to see the world they lived in , in Crete. She sets out to find out about their lives and in doing so finds out more about herself than she ever knew. She is resilient, adventurous and has more courage than she ever thought possible. The author has certainly thought this story through and I loved every page
