For me this was a four star read, and a perfect ‘holiday book’, and provides a real sense of escapism which is well needed at a time when we can’t travel easily. The descriptions really transported me.
I enjoy books that are written from multiple perspectives and I felt that looking for the durrells did that very well. Each character had a clear and unique voice which meant reading from the different perspectives was a pleasure.
The short snappy chapters meant that the book kept a good pace which made me want to keep reading and I ended up flying through it. There was always time for ‘just one more chapter’.
The characters were likeable, however I did feel as though the plot could have done with a bit more depth overall which is why I have not given this book five stars.
Overall I would definitely recommend this book to anyone looking for an easy, light summer read.
