From the moment I saw the front cover for Looking For The Durells I thought it would be the perfect Summer read so I brought it along on our ‘staycation’. As a fan of the ‘The Durells’ television series I knew it would be my sort of book.

After the death of her father and a broken engagement you can see why Penny would be desperate to get away for a while. So she sets off for Corfu, a childhood dream, on a pilgrimage of places she’s read in My Family and Other Animals by Gerald Durell.

Penny bravery sets off by herself but soon becomes friendly with the locals. The story is told through a few perspectives showing the impact on Penny’s life and the islanders she meets. This may have had a sad start but it turned into a wonderful, uplifting read that I thoroughly enjoyed. I really liked all the characters and I felt like I was right there in Corfu with Penny. A fabulous Summer read, I’ll be looking out for more from this author.
