Looking for the Durrells is the perfect summer read especially for these times when travel is limited. This is a great opportunity to curl up in an armchair and escape to Corfu. The father of Penny, the main character, has recently died and Penny has also separated from her fiance. Penny thinks a lot about when she was young and her father read her so many books by the Durrells. The pair were completely entranced by the books and spoke about one day visiting Corfu and the places the Durrells had lived. Now, at just sixty, Penny's father is dead after being diagnosed with cancer and Penny feels the time is right for her to go to Corfu for her and for her father and plans a holiday to spend a month on the island going to all these places she and her father so often imagined visiting. Melanie Hewitt writes so well and knowledgeably about the Durrells and Corfu that it's easy for readers to imagine they're really there.
