I do love an easy to read romantic story and this did not disappoint. Having visited the island of Corfu on holiday, I could picture the villages, the friendly local characters, the holiday guides, the tourists and more importantly the scenery.

Penny is in turmoil, she has lost her beloved dad after an illness and ended her engagement to a man who expected her to give up everything to be with him without him giving up much in return. She needs a break and decides to follow a dream that her father and her had when she was a child to visit Corfu and follow in the footsteps of the family behind her favourite book Gerald Durrell’s (My Family and Other Animals) who lived there before World War II.

It does not take long for Penny to fall in love with the island and the people that live or work there. From Tess the English woman who lost her Greek husband in an accident and runs the taverna alongside her father in law Spiro. Theo the young son of Tess, who has a special bond with his grandfather. Nic who was best friends with Tess husband and has had underlying feelings for Tess from years which resurface. Guy and Rick the two travel reps who show Penny around the island and Dimitris the local fisherman and boat tour operator who Penny starts to fall for.

This is a lovely story to read whilst relaxing in the garden, relaxing by the pool on holiday, or just before bed.
