I really loved the premise of this book and I felt like it had lots of potential but unfortunately it didn’t deliver in the way that I wanted it to. This book was strongest when it was harder hitting. It dealt with a very important issue and I think the author handled it very well (yay for own voices!). However it struggled to figure out which direction it wanted to go in. The Islamophobia storyline didn’t really come into play until quite far into the novel and seemed secondary to the teen love story plot. This would have been fine if the love story plot hadn’t felt so lacking. Without the deeper themes this would have been a much lower rating for me. I’ll definitely read more from this author in the future and hopefully she’ll only get better as she goes.
