Things in the book that didn't go over so well with me were the predictable love interest story and how one of the scenes was quite racy - and I'm an adult! Perhaps I'm old fashioned, but if I had a 11-12 year old who I would want to read this book for all the other great stuff it does cover - I'd be concerned about how far is too far to push the romance scenes. Now onto what I did like: this is a poignant insight into what it is to be an American Indian Muslim today in Trump's kingdom, or just an American whose parents immigrated from outside of the US. It plays with the biases that we unconsciously absorb from the media which I myself even fell into. It also sheds light on what it is like to be attacked as a young teenager for not being 'American' enough, when all you've known your whole life is America. It's not an in-your-face commentary, but subtly done. For those themes alone, I wish I had a book like this growing up.
