Before reading Love, Hate and other Filters, I wasn't sure I could read, enjoy and finish a novel about teenage romance (in two days). But Samira has a unique way to tell this story. The story of Maya is an important story, showing how the life of a normal teenager and her family is disturbed because of islamophobia; how something as little as a last name shakes the world of an innocent family. Samira Ahmed carefully unveils the negative power of hate but also how important it is to still rise and not be trapped by fear. She brings us on the journey with Maya who fights for her dreams and chooses to live courageously in-spite of all the hate she encounters.

But Love, Hate & other Filters wasn't just a novel for me. I went on that first date with Maya and Kareem, and shared in the butterflies when Phil insisted on swimming classes. I also felt the horror and fear that Maya and her family experienced during the attacks, and how real islamophobia and race really is in our society. But I am also extremely proud that readers are now being given more opportunities to experience different worlds and be educated on different experiences. This book is a very timely read, given the current world we live in and I recommend it to all readers!
