Disappointing

This book had such amazing promise especially as a YA book to celebrate diversity and different cultures. But unfortunately I found it rather disappointing. The book started well with an introduction to the main character and her typical overbearing mother and relaxed father. The MC has dreams and ambitions that her mother doesn't fully understand or accept.
My main issue with this book was how it didn't solve any problems, the only solution was for the MC to betray her family and sneak behind their backs. Surely honesty should be emcouraged, especially with a book aimed at young adults who need advice and support in difficult situations.
This book turned into a slight disaster by the end and was not the fun cultural experience I was hoping for.
