I'm not a fan of YA contemporary at all so requesting this book was a big risk for me. But I'd heard such good things that I had to give it a try.

Love, Hate and Other Filters is a very cute book with what felt like realistic teens. It was interesting for me to read about another culture other than my own though, of course, it was that side of the book that pulls at heartstrings.

This book contains some upsetting displays of racism and it's sad to think that they aren't even unrealistic. People are horrible and ignorant and it's important that the message that they suck gets out there. This book actually starts with a note where the author talks about islamophobia so I would recommend reading that first.

The romance in the book was okay. It wasn't the best but the prom scene at the end was cute. And I kind of like that it wasn't a we'll definitely be together forever ending as a lot of this book is about growth so it was nice to see.

I would definitely recommend this book to contemporary lovers but it wasn't amazing enough to convert me into one myself.
