Fluff is a very vague adjective for novels but for the purposes of this review I will define it as actions/interactions/inner thoughts of a romantic nature that doesn't add to the story or plot or character and can easily be excluded from the narrative. I went into this knowing it was a romance novel but LH&OF was intended to not just explore romance but issues of discrimination and identity as well. It has many themes but I have to complain that the romance was a lot more significant in the story than what I had hoped for. I am not the biggest fan of fluff and constant reminders of how lovestruck the MC was because being a romantic cannot substitute for a personality. I think for new readers if they went in understanding the level of fluff they will encounter they would be more prepared to love this book.
