First of all I was firstly drawn to the gorgeous pink cover with a girl looking through a camera. Secondly once I read the blurb about the storyline.
I realised that I haven't read that many fiction novels about a Muslim family. I am not a Muslim there for I was eager to read this book.

I enjoyed reading about all the characters and the voices of Indian families were absolutely believable. I felt sorry for young Maya Aziz as she feels different because her family are the only Indian Muslim family in her town.

It's hard sometimes talking to the family telling them what you want to do because sometimes parents just don't listen because they are so wrapped up in what they want for you.

Maya has a time with her parents she wants to go to NYU. But her parents have other ideas they want Maya to go to a school closer to home. Her parents want her to become a lawyer and learn to cook and marry a nice Indian doctor. It appears that Maya's parents just don't want to listen to what she wants to be and this is to make beautiful films and one day take Hollywood by storm. It's a let down for Maya's dreams because far as her dad is concerned all Maya's filming is just a hobby.

I recommend Love, Hate & Other Filters as so much more happens in this well written novel. I'm looking forward to the next book by author Samira Ahmed.
