This book is an amazing coming of age novel by an author that I had never heard of and think I will come to love as she is recommended for fans of Adam Silvera, of which I am so eager to read his work
This book focuses on an Indian/American teenage girl (I shouldn't have to specify that she is a Muslim, what does it matter?) who has to learn to confront the Islamophobia (which should not be a thing in this day and age!) that she is faced with by people who are so dimly minded.
Maya Aziz, the teenager in question is essentially torn between two worlds, the proper one her parents expect her to follow and then there is her world of dreams where she can do as she pleases, go to film school and live in New York instead of having to listen to tradition and attending a college close to home and being paired in an arranged marriage.
I think that anyone, no matter what their race should be able to do what they please and pursue their dreams as they wish.
