M is for Mummy reveals Katy Cox to have an outstanding new comic voice, genuinely funny and heart warming without tipping into the sentimental. It's not for the faint hearted. She tells it how it is, the exhaustion and indignities of motherhood, with hilarious candour.
She has a shrewd eye for human frailty, the alpha mums, interfering in laws and show biz luvvies. And the ability to vividly conjure up the daily scenes of family life, especially the challenges of living with autism. We get fascinating glimpses into the pop and classical music world amidst the more mundane... a trip to IKEA with a happy ending(!).
It is extremely rare for me to laugh out loud at a book and to be moved to tears. I think we're going to hear much more about Katy Cox. She is in the same league as Ruby wax, Diane Morgan and Sharon Hogan. I can't wait to see what she does next!
