This book is very much a case of writing what you know; both the author and Lucy (the central character) are cellists who performed with some of the biggest names in the music industry before starting a family.

The former wastes no time in throwing the reader into the world of the latter, who is about to give birth to her second child. After this event, Lucy's marriage suffers and instead of playing the cello behind superstars at packed-out arenas, she spends most days mopping up broccoli vomit whilst listening to her four-year-old recite facts about the gallbladder. With a little help from her friends, Lucy comes up with a plan to get her life on track, claw back her career and help her son find his place in the world.

The brief chapters - all 57 of them plus the preceding prologue - ensures the story is just as fast-paced and hectic as the world of motherhood but, given how much the writer appears to draw on her own experiences, it doesn't help if you're unfamiliar with her previous blogging on the subject matter.
