I enjoyed this funny book.
The author, Katy Cox, is a classical cellist with 2 autistic sons and has written this book about what she knows - the main character, Lucy, is trying to restart her career as a cellist whilst also being a mother to her 4 year old autistic son, Stan and baby, Jack. Her husband, Ed, is also a professional musician and seems to leave most of the parenting to Lucy. The reason for this becomes obvious to the reader before the penny drops for Lucy.
There are lots of funny but bittersweet observations of Stan’s behaviour which certainly reminded me of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime. I must admit that I was surprised at the binge drinking, bad language and raucous behaviour of Lucy and her fellow classical musician friends. They’re obviously not the sweet, prim, innocent young ladies they portray when performing. Lots of toilet and sex innuendo for those readers who like that sort of thing.
Definitely a book to recommend.
