M is for Mummy by Katy Cox is a familiar funny story of a mum of young children.
Lucy has 2 young children, Jack a baby and Stanley 4 who she suspects might be autistic. She has the typical friends without children who try to support her but don't always get her. Her and her husband are both musicians but it seems his career is put ahead of hers. Add in the horrible mother in law, unhelpful husband and the perfect yummy mummy tribe and it all seems geared to the familiar format!
However the added interest is around the storyline of Lucy suspecting her son might be autistic and trying to get this diagnosed is different and felt original. The thoughts she has and the way she deals with his behaviour is complex and well written.
Even though the novel was not the most original, it was well written and I really enjoyed reading it. I liked the characters and was rooting for a nice ending.
