After reading the beginning I see why this is called ‘m is for mummy’, Lucy has a child who is on the autistic spectrum and his security blanket is an alphabet puzzle. Straight away we are drawn into the chaotic life of the family and Lucy’s honest and explicit thoughts about herself and those around her. I liked her Bridget Jonesesque friends who offer support as only unmarried and childless friends can. With the stresses of family, work and home keeping Lucy does question her relationship with her husband Ed and I wonder how much of the writing is true to the authors real life and feel happy for her if this is a cathartic release for all her days of struggle. I really wish I had this book to read when I was a mother of young children and going through similar situations and having feelings like Lucy as I would have laughed harder as a welcome release!
