I'm not usually a fan of novels that focus on modern parenting so I really didn't expect to enjoy this book but I absolutely loved it. The main character is Lucy, an accomplished cellist, who is juggling life with a newborn baby and a very demanding four-year-old while at the same time trying to revive her career and bring some romance back into her marriage. It is hilarious, emotional and honest and had me laughing out loud one minute then tugging at my heartstrings the next. The descriptions of her young son's challenging behaviour really resonated with me and were an insightful glimpse into the difficulties of parenting an autistic child, but Stanley is also an adorable and fascinating character in his own right. It's an excellent debut novel, brilliantly written, and I will definitely keep a look out for future books by this author.
