I think most mothers have had moments post children that they struggle to find themselves in the midst of messy family life and M Is For Mummy is an enjoyable and heartfelt read that takes a humorous look at parenthood, as well as to how to cope when your children don’t quite fit the “norm" that we are all led to expect. It’s a light hearted easy read but one that will strike a chord with many.

Lucy is a successful cellist with two small boys who is trying to juggle life as a mother and wife - self-employed, she cannot afford to be out of the job market for too long, her husband is also a musician so takes work where and whenever it comes and trying to keep the romance alive in her marriage whilst coping with two demanding children is a challenge. Add to that the fact that her eldest, Stanley, has autistic tendencies, her daily life is far from straightforward.

This is a book written from personal experience and it feels all the more authentic as a result - at times hilarious, at times heartbreaking, Lucy’s struggles are enormously relatable, the supporting cast of friends and family are entertaining and I loved its brutal honesty about the ups and downs of life. I do hope we get to hear more about Lucy, Stanley and the rest of the family.
