Starting with the positives - it was relatable to me as a mum, it was funny, and it was written simply. However perhaps a bit too simply - the style was lacking a bit of emotive writing, I didn't feel a strong emotional bond to a character or feel any strong emotions. The story also took a bit too long to really take off - it needs to more concise, or have a bit more depth to the writing. It was easy to follow the plot, there was a good setting and it didn't feel too ridiculously unbelievable, but the situations that were obviously meant to be moments that took your breath have all been done before - and done better.

The overall look of the book doesn't grab me either, and after this first read I wouldn't keep an eye out for this in the shops, but of someone gave me it I'd probably read the rest. Perhaps another person may enjoy this, but if you read a few books like this, then it blends in to the crowd.
