This book follows two central characters, the first being Madame Burova, who is a ‘Tarot Reader, Palmist’ and is thinking of retiring. The second is Billie who lives in London, currently with no job or marriage. When Madame Burova completes a promise she made some years ago to pass on a message, Billie finds out a secret in her past that creates many questions of which Madame Burova can not answer.
The story alternates between two story lines, one set in the 1970s describing the events leading up to Billie’s birth and the other present day, where Billie spends time with Madam Burova in Brighton trying to understand the mystery of her past and to perhaps make a new start.
This is an extremely easy read, there is not much real drama, and it is generally a fun read, I enjoyed reading about the tarot reading, adding a more magical touch to the book and am looking forward to reading more by this author!
