I really enjoyed reading "Madame Burova". I have read previous books by the author Ruth Hogan, with "The Keeper of Lost Things" being one of my favourites, and this book did not disappoint me! The story centres around Madame Burova, a retired Tarot card reader and clairvoyant, and Billie a woman who is on a mission to discover the secrets of her past. I like how the story switches between the present and the 70s. There are lots of different characters, most of whom are connected to Larkin's holiday camp. What I like about Ruth Hogan's books is that there is always an element of magic to them. I found this book really easy and enjoyable to read, whilst also appreciating the range of important issues that the story covers, including race, identity and harassment. I would recommend this book as one to read over a few sessions sitting out in the garden sunshine.
