I loved this story from the first page. This was the first Ruth Hogan book I have read and I loved how quickly she set the scene and I was immersed into Madame Burova's world. What really struck me was the detail in the writing, the description and the rich language. It was written well and didn't big down the story but instead built a detailed picture of both time periods. Moving between the different times felt easy. The characters remained themselves through the whole story and I was able to feel something for them. We found out lots about everyone and it only made the story easy to follow and made me invested in how everyone was interlinked.
The whole book showed such a family, community spirit which was heart warming and I know I felt part of the story as I read. I wanted to know what happened to the characters, they felt like people I knew and cared for.
I would love to read more by Ruth Hogan and I will be recommending this book to everyone too!
