This is a really uplifting and moving story which celebrates the importance of family and friendship. Told through two timelines, the book follows Imelda Burova, or Madame Burova, as she is know professionally as a tarot reader and palmist. Imelda keeps so many secrets for her clients while dealing with her own unanswered questions from the past. I found her so endearing as a character and my eagerness to see how things work out for her kept me hooked throughout the book.

I loved the timeline set in the 1970s as a young Imelda learns her trade and hones her gift while working with her mother at Larkins, a holiday resort in Brighton. The world of the holiday camp and the various characters working there really came to life with plenty of drama and secrets among them. The friendships that Imelda forms there carry through to the present day timeline when a young women named Billie arrives looking to find out who her birth parents are after recently learning she was abandoned by her mother at the holiday resort all those years ago.

The connection between Billie and Imelda was well developed, as were so many of the friendships within the book, and I found the story to be a really positive representation of female friendship through the Larkins staff and regular customers who form their own family.

This would make a perfect summer read so I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an uplifting and entertaining story.
