Madame Burova is the story of Imelda Burova -Tarot Reader, Palmist and Clairvoyant set in modern day and 1970’s Brighton. In parallel is the story of Billie, a young woman at a crossroads in her life and how she is intertwined with Imelda and Brighton. The nostalgic times 50 years ago of holiday camps, the seaside, secrets and loves made and lost all make for a wonderful read. The book centres around trust and the power of friendship. I particularly loved the characters of Treasure and Clive and found many poignant moments with them. The book made me laugh and also genuinely cry.
I have not read the other books written by Ruth Hogan but I will seek them out now. Her writing style and immersive storyline had me reading until late into the night. It’s been a while since a book has compelled me to keep reading just one more chapter. Read, enjoy, laugh, cry. You will not be disappointed.
