This book is a really great read. It is such a well thought out and sensitively written story. The characters are all so lovely (well most of them!), you feel so connected to them, and when the story ended I had a tear in my eye.
This story is set across two timelines. We meet Madame Burova, a tarot reader, and keeper of secrets against the backdrop of 1973 as she is starting out in life as a strong and independent young women and in the present time as she embarks on a new life in retirement. However, before she can really enjoy her future life in she has to fulfil a promise she has kept for many years even if it means opening up old wounds.
At the same time we meet Billie. Billie lives in London, is divorced, no longer has her job as a university lecturer and has recently lost her dad, so is at a juncture in her life when she discovers something that will change her life forever.
