I was hooked on this book from the very first line! Although set in the light setting of the seaside, the narrative was incredibly dark and intriguing. I loved the contrast, and it was different to anything I had ever read before.

The plot switches between the nineteen seventies and the modern day, and I really enjoyed how I was able to understand Madame Burova's character development between these two time periods.

I loved meeting Madame Burova's family, and enjoyed tracking the relationships they had with each other. Each of the characters was distinctive and well described, which I thought gave them a depth which is lacking in some character driven fiction.

Lastly, this book had incredibly luxurious language, which fit in with the focus of the plotline and the main character Madame Burova.

Thus, I very much enjoyed reading this book, and I thought it was a new and exciting idea which I had never read about before.
