Imelda Burova has spent a lifetime keeping other people's secrets. Her cards have unmasked them all - the lovers and the liars, the dreamers and the fools. But now after fifty years she has grown weary of other people's lives and plans to retire. However, she has one last promise to fulfill - in her hands she holds two envelopes, what's inside will undoubtedly drag up the past, but she must deliver them regardless.

After the death of her Father, Billie discovers she was adopted, struggling with her identity and determined to find the answers she whole heartedly seeks, she finds herself face to face with the one and only Madame Burova...

I have a real love for Ruth's books so I can't begin to tell you how excited I was to read Madame Burova! Filled with eccentric characters, warmth and that little bit of magic Hogan brings to every story, it's secrets left me spellbound.

I loved learning about Madame Burova's life, of her gift and all the extraordinary people that were a part of it - think mermaids, a contortionist and a hunky wall of death driver, each character was as interesting as the next. She'd certainly lived an exciting life but one that is tinged with sordid secrets, sadness and that has a tragic tender love story at it's heart.

The relationship between Madame Burova and Billie brought real depth to the story, with Imelda refusing to share any further details about Billie's birth parents, other than those revealed by the contents of the envelopes. The mystery of her parents was cleverly executed right up to the last moment, keeping me guessing and engaged the whole way through. Ruth really is a masterful storyteller, her writing style always provides such escapism!

Dazzling, heartfelt and a tale that pulls on the heartstrings as it unravels, it truly was a wonderful read - there's so much more hidden within it's pages that I implore you to discover for yourself!
